Peak XV takes startups on their artificial intelligence journey in Silicon Valley

Venture capital firm Peak The company’s latest expansion of product range and network flexibility.
About 60 founders, many of whom are supported by Peak XV’s influential Surge program, will join the company’s partners to meet industry leaders and visit artificial intelligence research centers, according to a participant with knowledge of the matter.
An email from the company to portfolio startups seen by TechCrunch shows that this week included strategy meetings with executives from OpenAI and Nvidia, as well as Sequoia Capital partner Doug Leone, as well as input from Uniphore CEO Umesh Sachdev and Speeches from experienced operators such as DoorDash consultant Gokul Rajaram.
The program, known internally as “Immersion Week,” is the latest glimpse into Peak XV’s growing roster of companies doing more than just writing checks, as competition intensifies among venture investors seeking exposure to the world’s most promising artificial intelligence startups.
India is one of the largest startup ecosystems and currently lacks the depth of deep tech and artificial intelligence startups. Few players in India have attempted to build basic large-scale language models. Sarvam AI is one such startup, which late last year announced $41 million in funding led by Peak XV and Lightspeed India, and last week formed a partnership with Microsoft.
Investors say many of India’s existing startups are strategizing about what new capabilities to build and how to find overseas customers, and that’s where trips like “immersion” can help.
Since its spin-off last year, Peak XV has taken an aggressive approach, rapidly growing its cross-region strength and network capabilities.
Peak XV did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday morning. But in an email to portfolio companies over the weekend, Peak XV told its founders that the trip would be “focused on building world-class products” and “getting a glimpse into the world of artificial intelligence.”
Peak XV managing director Shailendra Singh, Rajan Anandan, Harshjit Sethi, Ashish Agrawal and Surge partner Pieter Kemps are among the presenters this week, according to people familiar with the matter.
