SMS Package Scam Offers More Benefits Than Your Business Expected
There’s a text message scam going viral that may target your mailroom staff, receptionist, or other employees. The FTC offers advice on how to protect your business.
Our consumer blog describes a text message people received claiming to be a FedEx tracking notification. In variations of the scheme, fraudsters also incorrectly reference the names of UPS and the U.S. Postal Service. According to the text, “delivery” needs to be scheduled by clicking on the link. From there, people are taken to an Amazon page where they are invited to complete a customer satisfaction survey. They were then informed that they had won a free prize. Simply enter your credit number to pay for shipping and handling.
But as the blog post explains:
This text is not from a delivery service.
No package.
That’s not a real Amazon page.
This is not a customer survey.
And there are no free prizes.
This is another scam designed to get people to hand over their account information – or your company’s credit card number. Consumer Blog also launched a new article, “How to Identify and Report Spam,” to share with your employees.
By the way, in addition to subscribing to FTC Business Blog Alerts, you can also sign up for FTC Consumer Alerts to stay informed about steps you, your family, and friends can take to protect yourself from the latest scams.
