What’s new: T-Mobile is launching T-Mobile Secure Access Service Edge (SASE), providing enterprises and government organizations with two breakthrough capabilities – T-SIMsecure and T-Mobile Security Slice.

Why it’s important: IT and security teams face an increasing number of threats, so it’s more important than ever for businesses and organizations to adopt the latest SASE innovations.

Who is it suitable for: Businesses and organizations who want to improve the protection of their networks, applications and information from cyber threats.

Today, T-Mobile (NASDAQ: TMUS) launched T-Mobile SASE, a network management and ZTNA (Zero Trust Network Access) platform that helps customers secure their employees, systems and endpoints Connect to remote networks, enterprise applications and resources. Not only is it the first SIM-based SASE solution, it is also the first in the United States to provide customers with secure network slicing dedicated to SASE traffic. These industry-first components are designed to make it easier than ever for organizations to protect corporate data and network resources from virtually anywhere.

The global average cost of a single data breach is expected to reach $4.45 million by 2023, a 15% increase from 2020, so organizations are increasingly turning to software-based solutions like SASE to help protect themselves against attacks . But compared to hardware-based security solutions, software-based security solutions may bring some risks, and there is room for improvement. For example, traditional software-based SASE only Provides protection when client software is downloaded to the device and configured. This is an administrative burden for IT departments and can leave certain devices, such as IoT hardware and routers, vulnerable to attacks.

The story continues

Enter T-Mobile SASE. T-Mobile worked closely with Versa Networks to create T-SIMsecure—the first SIM-based SASE solution that uses International Mobile Subscriber Identity and International Mobile Device Identity for clientless authentication. This hardware-based component means devices connected to T-Mobile’s network can be automatically authorized via SIM card, reducing management complexity and simplifying the work of IT and security teams. It also provides a better experience for mobile employees, such as field service and frontline workers. Because authorization is always on and ubiquitous, it helps protect devices that cannot support traditional SASE software, such as IoT and routers. Devices without a T-Mobile SIM can still download and set up the SASE device client, regardless of carrier or Wi-Fi network.

T-Mobile SASE offers more than just SIM-based authorization. It also lets you cover private visit Protect business applications and data on corporate networks, and secure internet access Protect Internet-connected devices from threats such as viruses, malware, and ransomware.

  • private visit Use a modern ZTNA-based VPN approach to provide secure, direct, least-privilege access to devices so employees can only access the applications and data they need to do their jobs from anywhere on the corporate network.

  • secure internet access Includes features such as Web filtering (Secure Web Gateway), SaaS application protection (Cloud Access Security Agent), and advanced IT network security (Next Generation Firewall).

As part of its SASE solution, T-Mobile will also offer T-Mobile Security Slice—the first network slice exclusively for U.S. commercial products. Using new network management capabilities, T-Mobile’s 5G Standalone (SA) network can be divided into multiple virtual networks – also known as slices. Each slice can be set up individually, allowing them to be isolated and customized to meet the needs and requirements of specific applications and service traffic (e.g. SASE). This provides T-Mobile SASE customers with potentially huge benefits of 5G SA-enabled devices, such as improved latency, faster speeds, and incremental layers of security and control compared to Wi-Fi, LTE and 5G non-standalone devices .

“T-Mobile SASE with T-SIMsecure and Security Slice is another example of delivering innovation to our enterprise and government customers,” said Callie Field, president of T-Mobile Business Group. “This not only complements and expands our security offerings, The combination protects enterprise networks, applications and data and reinforces our commitment to leveraging 5G leadership forever.”

The new security products, which include T-SIMsecure, SASE Device Client, Private Access, Secure Network Access and T-Mobile Security Slice, will be rolled out to businesses and organizations by the end of this year.
